Our kitchen may be small, but it certainly works hard! It’s semi-open and is roughly 12 x 13 feet. It’s an eat-in kitchen with an island, a small cabinet pantry, and a long double window on one of the walls.
One of the first things we did when we moved into our house was replace the kitchen cabinets. The existing ones were too far gone to just refinish or reface. We reconfigured what kind of cabinets we needed (like a corner cabinet with a lazy Susan, a pull-out spice cabinet, etc), but we stayed within the existing cabinet layout.
We also added the kitchen island and the small cabinet pantry that I mentioned earlier and closed off an awkward second doorway while opening up the main doorway as much as we could.
Looking back, I wish we would have just gone ahead and knocked out an existing interior wall and changed the whole layout, but you really don’t know the space until you live in it a little while. #youliveyoulearn
One day, we will knock out that wall and do an entire kitchen makeover.
For now, what we have works and one of my goals for this year is to do a mini kitchen refresh, which includes painting our existing tile floor and purchasing a new table.
Currently, we have a 36” round table under that long double window. It’s a nice solid-wood, antique claw foot table that was a family hand-me-down and we just used it because we had it. We have two slip covered chairs on either side and we just pull around an adjustable high chair for Alisa. We eat most family meals here, but with another baby on the way we need a table better suited for that space and our growing family.
That brings us to my search for a simple, farm-style table to go in that small space in our kitchen. I have searched high and low and these are my favorites:
1 // 2 // 3 // 4 // 5 // 6 // 7 // 8 // 9
Most all of the tables are solid wood (even the one from Wal-Mart!) with the exception of 5 and 6. Those are made with a combination of solid and manufactured wood. Still fantastic table options.
I think 4 and 7 are my top choices. 4 is the best budget buy for sure!
There’s a also a close runner-up, but I wouldn’t necessarily call it a farm-style table. It’s more of a modern style with it’s clean lines, mango wood top, and steel frame. There are also a few more tables on my kitchen Pinterest board.
I also priced out a custom wood table that would measure 60″ x 36″ x 30″. A local craftsman gave me an estimate of $400 for a finished, stained, solid pine table similar to my favorites above. It’s mostly within the same price range as the other tables so that’s good!
I’ll keep you posted on what I decide for our small space.
Thanks for reading!
All the best,

Hi Missy,
Couldn’t wait to open this issue up. I haven’t read much yet, but just wanted to compliment you on how impressive it looks. I’m not very savvy with all with this new-fangled computer stuff : ) … so I can’t imagine how you make this look both so friendly AND PROFESSIONALl! Keep up the good work, Sweetie. (I seem to be using “Sweetie” a lot here lately. I guess that’s a word us southern gals use as we get closer to 70!!! YUCK!!!!)

Frances, thank you so much for your comment and encouragement! That means the world to me! So glad you are reading and following along. I’m not super tech savvy, but I love the topic and am passionate about it. I’m learning as I go and excited to share it with others. 😉 Btw, I don’t think using “Sweetie” is so much an age thing b/c Alisa has been calling everyone (including me) “Sweetie” and she’s just three. Hahaha! Hope you’re having a great week!

Thanks for the note, Missy. Loved hearing from you. I’m sure ALISA’S ADORABLE when SHE says it. As for the great week, believe me, after working all of those years, ever since I retired, every day is a great day! Have a good weekend, SWEETIE!!!!

Not because your favorites are #4 & #7, but I like those too along with #6.
Jamma!
