4 feet x 12 feet = long and narrow.
Our front door opens to this little hallway/foyer. It’s not really a drop zone. It’s not really used besides checking the mailbox, walking through to the master bedroom, or maybe for the occasional guest that comes to the front door. (Side note – we are hoping to make our front door more “user friendly” by adding a sidewalk and redoing some landscaping in the front yard next year.)
There’s really no room for furniture. I tried a slim console table for a while, but it was too crowded. You couldn’t even open the front door the whole way! I would love to put a fiddle leaf fig tree in there, but there’s not really even room for that.
I’ve had thoughts about extending the space, but I’m concerned about what to do with the wood floors and changing the roof line. Do I really want to sink that much money into this space? We certainly have other projects way higher on the priority list. Hello, bathroom remodel!
Hmmm…what to do? For now, I’m just going to make it a pretty walk-thru space. My plan is to fill that wall from floor to ceiling for an art wall. I put a mirror in the center to reflect light and make the space seem a little deeper.
Some changes that will be happening soon are bamboo blinds and/or replacing the front door. If we go with French doors, we’ll be taking those windows out so no bamboo blinds needed there. What do you think about French doors for that space? As you can see, we haven’t even bothered changing the hardware on the current door. Hehe. Also, you got a sneak peek of two DIY projects! Did you see the large armoire and the side/occasional chair in the master bedroom? Those are coming up the very near future!
Just for fun, here’s a before and after comparison:
What were those two doors doing on either end anyway? And that weird peachy color had to go. Obviously, we’ve fixed the plantation shutters in the other room too.
More updates coming soon!

First visit to your blog–nice job! I enjoyed chatting at the park. Next time you see the “open” sign out at the museum, stop in. We have great art for sale too!
