Before we even found out that we were pregnant, I had navy blue paint swatches up on the wall.
Baby or not, this room was going to be dark and moody and have a navy paneled wall. We had plans for it to be our home office, but we just switched gears a little bit and now it’ll be a nursery.
The room was also going to be navy blue whether this baby was a girl or boy. Maybe touches of fuchsia pink and emerald green for a girl, but now we’re going another direction with a vintage industrial vibe for our little boy.
So glad because I had purchased some lockers not knowing exactly where I was going to use them. They are perfect in this boy room and provide a TON of storage!
Here’s the design plan:
In addition to the lockers, we also already have the curtains, curtain rods, trunk, vintage schoolhouse desk, the oversized chair, the canvas play tent, some vintage maps, and a faux fiddle leaf fig tree. WIN! Basically, all we need is the crib, rug, sofa sleeper, and a few decorative touches.
1. Curtains + rods – Already had these velvet-like curtains and just ordered on more pair and one more rod. Planning to hem the top so the grommets are removed. It bothers me with the silver grommets against the brass curtain rods (even though I’m a fan of mixed metals). It just looks funny so we’re hemming the grommets right out.
2. Pillows – green velvet, white striped, and black. I’m hoping to find some similar ones at HomeGoods or TJMaxx.
3. Wall art – We didn’t want the room to be too juvenile because it will also function as a guest room. Again, hoping to find something similar at HomeGoods.
4. Lighting – Since we have 8′ ceilings, we always go with a semi-flush mount.
5. Blue panel wall – like I said before, this room was going to have a dark paneled wall anyway! It will be the perfect focal wall to have the crib on.
6. Crib – I liked the darker wood look instead of a lighter version. There were some nice mid-century modern ones out there, but they were way more pricey. This one is currently out of stock, but I’m hoping it comes back in. If not, this one is our backup.
7. Boho Moroccan rug – Already have this one ordered in the 8 x 10 size. Got the best price at RugsUSA, but the same rug is also at WayFair and Home Depot. Just watch the sales to get the lowest price!
8. Floor lamp – I have the desktop version of this lamp and love it.
9. Sectional sleeper sofa – This small space has got to be super functional. Not only for the baby’s needs, also for overnight guests. That’s why we included this sleeper sofa.
10. Lockers (similar) – Like I said earlier, I had recently purchased these at a secondhand store not really knowing exactly where they would end up in our house. They’re perfect in here with TONS of storage.
11. Trunk (similar)- We already had the vintage trunk and the idea is that it will act sort of like a coffee table or end table.
12. Gold frame gallery wall – who doesn’t love a gallery wall?! I’m thinking some nice black and white newborn pics in these.
13. Decorative baskets – I’m thinking books and toys. There are tons of affordable options out there like these and these.
14. Vintage maps – I had already thrifted these years ago, but Etsy is a great place to start.
15. Black striped pillow – again, hoping for a HomeGoods find.
16. Mirror – I’ll probably put this mirror above the changing table to bounce some light around and to make the room seem larger.
17. Canvas play tent – We had purchased this for Alisa’s big girl room, but never could find the right place for it. I couldn’t remember exactly where we ordered it from, but this one from Wal-Mart seems reasonable.
18. Vintage schoolhouse desk – found in my parent’s attic. You can often find these at antique stores or secondhand shops.
19. Leather ottoman poof – For a little touch of boho! I ordered this genuine leather one here and got it for $60, but it took forever! Here’s one from Wayfair.
20. Oversized chair – we already had this Ektorp chair (in the Lofallet Beige) from Ikea. It was great for nursing so we’re putting it in the baby room.
21. Faux fiddle leaf fig tree – for a pop of green to liven up the space. This one always sells out fast because it’s the most realistic. Here’s a smaller one too.
That’s the plan! Now, to get to painting. 🙂
While we’re on the topic, what are your must-haves for baby item recommendations? In particular, any suggestions on double jogging strollers? Please tell me in the comments below.

Hi! Any chance you could provide an updated link for the curtains? Thanks 🙂

Hi Meghan! Thanks so much for your comment and for being here! I ended up going with with Majgull curtains. I’m going to try to put the link here. The Sanela curtains were a little more expensive, but I think those were the “velvet” type material. https://www.ikea.com/us/en/p/majgull-blackout-curtains-1-pair-dark-blue-70341034/
